Jeonju Field Trip with K-food Supporters

So recently I have been picked as one of the supporters for K-food (sounds interesting right :D) I’m in Global Team which consist of 15 international members from Vietnam, Hong Kong, Japan… Basically our missions are to promote Korean Foodthrough our SNS, and we were given the opportunity to eat Jeonju food during our first field trip ever.

As I’ve already mention in my old post for my Jeonju Trip, Jeonju is the heaven for food. People just travel Sere for one day just to enjoy eating. So this is my second time visit this lovely city but it was just different from the first time as I got to experience it in different way, thanks to Kfood Supporter.

I would like to list out things that one should try when come to Jeonju, to full filly experience the traditional Korean culture in one of the oldest cities of the country.

1.Stay at a Hanok House.

These are just another kind of guest houses but you got to live in a traditional house. How cool is that? Experience one night sleeping on the floor with soft blankets like Koreans do. The houses are really clean and equipped with everything so dont you worry. And it would be better to find one that also provide various culture experience such as making kimchi, making hanji (which will be listed down there)

One recommedation: we stayed at “김명옥숙박”

2. Experience the Culture

a. Making Kimchi:

When I travelled with my parents in Korea last summer, we learnt how to season the vegetables but we didn’t know how the gochu jjang was made. This time we were shown how Koreans used to make the sauce, with the huge stone bowls, they added all the ingredients (garlic, chilli, onions…) Then they used a stone to grind them all together, the smell was so strong but also so good. It was such a hard work.

IMG_9280

Then you get to season the whole cabbage. Spread the sauce thoroughly through every single leaves, dont miss any spot. We got to bring home a big box of the kimchi that we made ourselves.

b. Making Korean traditional Snack- Yugwa (유과)

You maybe more familiar with this snack with the shape as short roll, with crunchy sprinkles dipping in a bowl of honey in any Korean traditional cafe.

IMG_9255

So the mixture of grain flour was deep-fried, then we spread the mixture of sesame oil and honey all over the rectangle piece and finally roll it over the crunchy sprinkles.

b. Making Hanji:

The Korean traditional paper is called Hanji. We had some arts and crafts time with making our own keychain. The colorful papers were rolled into thin, long stick and using your artistic mind, you can just design the key chain. This is a great souvenier and presents for your friends and families.

2. Rent a Hanbok:

This was like my favorite part. I was in awe when I saw girls wearing pretty hanbok and walk around the village last time and this time I got to be one of them. There are MANY colors of the over coat and the bottom dress for you to mix. They also do your hair for you. Trust me, with the beauty of Jeonju, you will take a zillion of beautiful pictures. (the price are around 7000 won for 1 hours and a half)

3. Eating at it finest:

Having all the Korean food in one try:

IMG_9286

We were treated to a feast, basically. Bibimbap, ddokgalbi with all the dishes are must try thing.

IMG_9305

For a light morning breakfast, bean sprout soup with eggs (and an extra one) is not a bad idea. Here you can also try the chilli mandu.

IMG_9294

And dont forget to try the Bibimbap Bingsu. The awesome combination of Bingsu- Korean most famous summer dessert and Bibimbap- Jeonju most famous dish.

Jeonju has always been my favorite city. For me this is the best place for anyone who are interested in experience the traditional culture of Korea and just to slow down your life for one day. Jeonju, even though it seems small but there are many hidden things you can find there, it can surprise you each time you visit. (at least it was like that for me)

The food truck selling burgers

If you dont feel like eating here, the Konkuk Food Road right near Konkuk University station is not a bad choice. Since this is university area they have everything there. We found a very small, cute and quite restaurants a little bit further from the crowded main roads.

The shop only sell 2 main dishes: Meat Noodels and Bibim Noodles at reasonable price (6000 won each) The portion are no joke, the bowl are so huge, 2 can actually share one. It is amazingly delicious, especially the meat. I really recommend you try this place if u have the chance, the owner is super nice too.

Yang Jae Dong Flower Market

The weather is getting hotter in Korea right now so I thought I would make a post on a flower market when spring finally ends and welcome summer.

Yang Jae Dong Flower Market is located near the Gangnam area. The market is opened for individual customers as well as owners of flower shops. They opened really early in the morning (2am or so) so that the newly fresh flowers got shipped to various flower shops in the city.

IMG_2095

Flowers and plants are placed both outside and inside. It is absolutely pretty and colorful.

Yeomnidong Salt Street (염리동 소금길)

G_2453

Yeomnidong used to be an area habitated by salt merchants (Yeomni actually means Salt Way in Chinese) and this area was signed for redevelopment project by the city government few years ago. A lot of people left, and the village was left with shabby houses, dark and small alleys, and also an increase in crime rate. A project called Crime Prevention through Environmental Design was born and Yeomnidong was their first try. Because the whole area is filled with narrow, tricky alley and very uphill, it is hard for the police officer to locate the position of the victim. The Salt Way is a walking trail about 1.8km long, on which various locations that are likely to be a crime scence are numbered from 1 to 68. They painted each pole in very bright yellow (quite like neon yellow) and it can be seen easily even in the dark. Citizens can tell the officers that they are near Pole Number Something and help will be right on their way.

EXO 2ND CONCERT- EXO’LUXION MARCH 13TH 2015

Finally, I’ve had the chance to go see EXO’s solo concert. I’ve been regretted till now for not being able to go to their first one. Seriously, there are no words to describe my feeling to be able to watch their concert, especially after everything that happened in 2014.

( It seems like I’m so calm right now but actually inside !@#$%^&*()_+_)(*&^%$#@!~!@#$%^&*()_)(*&^%)

We arrived at Olympic Park quite early in the morning since we wanted to get the light sticks. The sale of official goods would start at 12, we got there around 8:30am. There were tents for official goods sale, and banners of each members hanging right at the entrance of the Park. And also huge concert banners at each gates of the stadium. 20150313_083247

We went to the ticket box and there were a REALLY LONG line of fans sitting there, I think there was about 100 of them. They had spent a night there with mats, blankets, pillows and suitcases.

20150313_083741

Anyway, when we saw staffs came around 10 and started to set up the tents, we went to find the line to buy lightsticks. Apparantly, you had to go downstairs to a place where they had long fences and line up there. To our surprise, there were already so many people- about 150 fans standing there 1 hour and half before the sale actually started.

20150313_105726 20150313_105930

Since we only bought lightsticks, we stood in Express Line for those who only buy lightsticks or slogans.

20150313_105657

At 12, we finally got our lightsticks and they were so pretty ❤
